OUR BOTTLE DRIVE HEROES!
On the first Monday of every month throughout the year and whatever the weather, the volunteer team of dedicated early-risers heads up to the clubhouse to sort our empties.
The truck travels through the community picking up bottles, cans and boxes, which are then sorted by dozens of hands – not an easy job and almost a full morning’s work!
The next step is to deliver the separated containers to the varioius collection points for a refund.
And the refund is what all this hard work is all about! 😉Â
Every penny earned from the returns is passed on to the Craig Bay Social Club to spend on activities for the enjoyment of the community.
Some of the events made possible this year include a Spring Fashion Show, four special TGIF evenings with musical entertainment, Canada Day celebrations, an upcoming Christmas Dinner and appreciation lunches for our many volunteers.
To show our gratitude to the Bottle Drive crew, the Social Club hosted a lunch for them on
September 20 in the Conservatory. The organizing team surprised the guests by reciting a
poem and presenting a card, written and designed by our Craig Bay Poet Laureate, Kathie
Murchison. Kudos to Jane Peverett for master-minding such a creative event.
Finally, thanks are also due to our Craig Bay residents for emptying all those bottles, cans and
containers. Drink up – the next collection day will be on November 4!
