About Us
What began in 2002 as a small group of seven has since grown to a membership of around fifty or so. Weekly rehearsals are held in the Conservatory Tuesday afternoons from 1:30-3:30. Fall (Sept – Dec) and Spring (Jan – May) sessions each conclude with a ticketed public concert at Knox United Church. As a non-profit organization, the Choristers have chosen to support Oceanside Hospice since 2010 and have donated at least $1000 annually from ticket sale proceeds.
Leading up to each of the Knox concerts, a smaller group of Choristers will give free mini concerts to seniors in care; usually one occurs at Stanford Place and the other in the Conservatory. Seniors are bused in to Craig Bay from several area care homes and, following the performance in the Conservatory, enjoy refreshments and goodies served by the Choristers. [Please note: During the COVID pandemic these mini-concerts have been discontinued, and will be resumed once the care homes are comfortable with their having residents attend].
There are often other performance opportunities for smaller groups, ie. a number of Choristers entertained the crowd at the main beach in downtown Parksville with a few songs at Beachfest’s Fireworks Night. In some Christmas seasons, a small group has led downtown patrons in singing Christmas carols at Parksville’s “Light Up Downtown” event held in November each year.
There is a membership fee which helps to offset expenses BUT if you have ever thought of possibly singing in your Craig Bay choir, do come and sit in on our first few rehearsals with no obligation or commitment.
Many Choristers have had folks comment to them that they look like they are really enjoying singing and having fun while performing – entirely true!! Director Lonnie Moddle keeps things light and fun but why not find out for yourself?
