“BARD”

Although he was one of the most creative geniuses of all time, very few portraits exist of William Shakespeare.

Bard is a 12″ x 12″ mixed media painting: (acrylic, graphite, pen & ink and collage) on canvas and was my entry in the 2023 Exquisite Corpse Project, which is held annually as part of BC Culture Days.

WAYNE DUTCHER

“MOUNT ARROWSMITH FROM PARKSVILLE BEACH”

I prefer local scenes for my subject material and strive to be as accurate as possible while still inserting a little humour or surprise elements into my finished work. Each project can sometimes entail some serious downtime between starting and finishing, while I contemplate that final brushstroke. Again, I cheat a little by often employing some found materials into my foregrounds, to add a little ‘realism’ to my art.

CATHY HILL

“LOW TIDE”

Whatever the time of day, or day of the year, our lovely Craig Bay Beach presents us with a continually changing scene to enjoy, and a new picture waiting to be taken.

MERRILYN LAURSEN

“FRENCH CREEK POST OFFICE”

Back in 2018, a group of Craig Bay Beachcomber Artists had a plein air painting session at the Heritage Museum.  (Plein air is the term used for painting the subject outdoors.) I chose to paint this building, transported from its original site – the French Creek Post Office, circa 1888.

Although this painting was done back in my studio, the sketches and painting I did onsite were an inspiration for this final acrylic painting.  It was done on a black gessoed background and the black appears often in the way of branches, outlines and the definition of the logs in the cabin.

JENNIE MEDYNSKI

“SILVANUS”

Silvanus, a God of Nature, or of all that is wild.  Also known as the Treefather or Oak Father.  Said to reside deep in the forests.

Watercolour and acrylic ink.

SUSAN MILLER

“HERON, CROW, EAGLE”

The evolutionary connection of birds and dinosaurs fascinates me. When at my local park or marina, I zoom in on bird anatomy as I see the link of birds and Jurassic giants most clearly in their feet. I hope you ‘see’ what I mean in my photos.

DEBORAH PHILIPP

“BOTANICAL NO. 8”

Acrylic botanical, spring theme.

ELAINE REID

“GREAT BLUE HERON”

The great blue heron is an iconic bird in our area, and I loved getting to stitch it. The fabric is an Evenweave cotton 28 count. This was a family project, as my husband Jim did the matting and framing.
