What is a Strata Corporation?

A strata Corporation is duly incorporated in accordance with the provisions of the Strata Property Act of British Columbia.  Each homeowner in a strata community automatically becomes a member of the Strata Corporation and, as an owner of a strata lot, may vote on all issues.

The Strata Property Act of the Province of British Columbia is provincial legislation which enables the creation of a Strata Plan and Strata Corporation.  The Act sets out the requirements of the developer for the creation of the Strata Plan as well as the framework for operation of the Strata Corporation.

When you buy your strata title home, you receive outright ownership of your strata lot through a Deed registered at the Land Titles Office in Victoria B.C.  Actually this part of your purchase is no different from buying any other home.  You have most of the privileges of individual home ownership and are free to sell or refinance your residence.
