Fall Food Drive: Why The Salvation Army?

There are many non-profit organizations that are there to help in times of calamitous events whether they be world wide or close to home. The Red Cross immediately comes to mind. People often do not know that The Salvation Army will be there too. This is an international charitable organization and reports a worldwide membership of over 1.7 million. Their mission is to preach the gospel while helping others, without discrimination. When humanitarian work is called for in any of the 131 countries where they operate – The Salvation Army is there. During war times especially, many of our parents spoke of the help that was received by many from The Salvation Army.  On 9/11, when Gander was visited by thousands aboard grounded flights, The Salvation Army was there to help feed and house as many as possible.

The work that they do today in our community is about helping those with personal disasters – the eviction notice, the drug addicted child/spouse, fire or flood with no insurance, mental breakdowns, not enough money to buy food or just an open heart to listen without judgment.

So, as we approach our “Thankful” time of the year – let’s be very grateful for our life in Craig Bay – we are so very fortunate.

You can help The Salvation Army do its wonderful work in our community of Oceanside by donating food or cash – every donation means so much. Allison will gladly collect your cash donation on their behalf. All donations over $10 will receive a tax receipt.  If the box in the office foyer is looking empty – please consider dropping off a food donation. There are grocery lists available to help with your choices, or you can get it HERE.

Pick up day by The Parksville Volunteer Fire Department and Salvation Army will be November 17 at 9:30am!
