2019 Craig Bay Charity Golf Classic Wrap

The annual CBCGC was a memorable event for all participants: good golf, made new friendships, great weather, maximum participation and a nice donation to the CB Fall Food Drive. It all started with registration and socializing at 1:00 pm. A 2:00 pm shotguns started the 18-hole best ball for 23 teams, followed by cocktails, a fine banquet and a few prize presentations. All was wrapped up by 7:00 pm, home to bed by 8:00.

Once all the accounting was completed the CBFFD organizers were presented with a check for $2,300 to kickstart the Christmas Food Drive. These proceeds came from residual registration fees (once day expenses were paid), corporate donations, HIO insurance, 50/50 draw and this year introduction of the great golf ball count. These few promotions seem to be the sweet spot so that participants can add a few $$$ to the food drive without overdoing it.

In response to feedback from previous years the organizers abbreviated the prizes limiting to 4 team handouts, and the ever-popular bottle of scotch on the #9 target shot. This shortened the evening of a long strenuous day. Seems everyone has a closet full of trinkets from previous events, we shall continue that format in the future.

Penny Rutherford thanked everyone for the support of the days fundraiser and outlined the objective and past success of the Fall Food Drive. Craig Bay volunteer organizers canvas our 5 strata community working in conjunction with the Parksville Fire Department who promote similar drives in other areas. Everything is turned over to the Salvation Army, consisting of a collection of cash and food donations.

In closing if you have some suggestions for improvement or would like to help with organizing the 2020 CBCGC please contact any of this year’s team. You don’t even have to be a golfer, just want to get involved.
