2:00 pm! 90 Residents on 23 tees, clubs at the ready! The siren blares! GO! What a first drive! That was a perfect pitch! Another birdie! And the laughter ensued! What a great time on a perfectly beautiful afternoon at Arrowsmith Golf and Country Club. All that exercise is fun and was further enhanced by a smorgasbord of the club’s famous “Arrowsmith Burger” – all the burger trimmings and then some!

This very fun event, is put on by organizers of the “Craig Bay Charity Golf Classic” committee. This event also “tee off” for our Craig Bay Fall Food Drive in support of our Parksville Volunteer Fire Department’s Food Drive (PVFD) for The Salvation Army.  A little background for new residents:

Every November on one weekend (Nov 16 and 17 this year), the 3 Fire Departments of Parksville, Qualicum Beach and Dashwood carry out a community wide food drive to help fill the shelves at The Salvation Army Food Bank. Their fire trucks go door-to-door on these days to collect donations of food and cash.

For the last 7 years, Craig Bay has assisted the PVFD by collecting donations early and having a ONE STOP PICKUP at the clubhouse. We have had enormous success over the last 4 years – last year our cash donation was $15,500 with food donations of 2800 pounds!

Now for that great TEE OFF from the CBCGC – best year yet! With the donations from corporate clients, the Hole in One Insurance, 50/50, “guess the # of balls from the xeriscape pond” and residual cash from registration less course rental and dinner expenses, we have started our drive with $2500!!

Dave wishes to thank the organizers: Elaine, Phil, Stu, Karen, Mary, Denise, Larry, and Arrowsmith Staff

I would like to thank my helpers: Jane Peverett, Lynn Cheetham and Susan Milne

We both thank Allison Siemens for her ongoing help with our newsletters and Friday emails – she always adds that extra special touch!

The donation box will be in the office soon and please check out the great poster made by resident artist, Bill Webb. Let’s see that red ink rise up the thermometer as we help out those in need once again.

Cheques over $10 will receive a tax receipt and may be left with Allison at the Beach Club office.

Please make cheques payable to The Salvation Army.
