About Us
What began in 2002 as a small group of seven has since grown to a membership of around fifty or so. Weekly rehearsals are held in the Conservatory Tuesday afternoons from 1:30-3:30. Fall (Sept – Dec) and Spring (Jan – May) sessions each conclude with a ticketed public concert at Knox United Church. As a non-profit organization, the Choristers have chosen to support Oceanside Hospice since 2010 and have donated at least $1000 annually from ticket sale proceeds.
Leading up to each of the Knox concerts, the Choristers perform free mini concerts to seniors in care at one of the facilities in Oceanside such as Arrowsmith Lodge and Stanford Seniors Village.
There are often other performance opportunities for smaller groups of Choristers, such as Parksville’s “Cookies and Carols” Christmas show at City Hall, and the summer “Rock the Beach” music festival.
Since 2022 the Choristers have been sponsoring a series of concerts known as the Seaside Performance Series by bringing in entertainers for shows at Knox Church. The goals of this series are
(a) to bring quality entertainment to Oceanside;
(b) to support the work of the choir; and
(c) to enable the choir to support the Oceanside Hospice Society with an annual donation. Over the past 15 years we have provided in excess of $25,000 to Hospice with partial proceeds from our own concerts and the sponsored series.
There is a membership fee which helps to offset expenses BUT if you have ever thought of possibly singing in your Craig Bay choir, do come and sit in on our first few rehearsals with no obligation or commitment.
Many Choristers have had folks comment to them that they look like they are really enjoying singing and having fun while performing – entirely true!! Director Lonnie Moddle keeps things light and fun but why not find out for yourself?
